An enlightened idea
Count Carlo Giacinto Roero di Guarene laid the cornerstone of the castle, transforming an ancient medieval fortress into his family’s summer residence. An enlightened aristocrat and a student of Filippo Juvarra, he personally designed the project: a sumptuous residence that would become one of the finest examples of Piedmontese Baroque.

The completed castle and royal honor
Guarene Castle was completed by Carlo Giacinto’s sons. The visit by Victor Amadeus III and the queen cemented the residence’s prestige as a symbol of the Roero counts’ power and a masterpiece of 18th-century Piedmontese architecture.

Passing the torch
Guarene Castle passes from the Roero family to the Provana family of Collegno. After centuries of family ownership, a long era of aristocratic rule comes to an end. The estate retains its role as a repository of memories and historical records.
