CASTELLO di GUARENE

Where History Meets Art

The Baroque, the residence and hospitality
through Time.

"The other evening the Count of Magliano, with the Count of
Castagnole
, came to see the building, and said that his
castle, compared to this one, is just a house
."

An enlightened idea

Count Carlo Giacinto Roero di Guarene laid the cornerstone of the castle, transforming an ancient medieval fortress into his family’s summer residence. An enlightened aristocrat and a student of Filippo Juvarra, he personally designed the project: a sumptuous residence that would become one of the finest examples of Piedmontese Baroque.

The completed castle and royal honor

Guarene Castle was completed by Carlo Giacinto’s sons. The visit by Victor Amadeus III and the queen cemented the residence’s prestige as a symbol of the Roero counts’ power and a masterpiece of 18th-century Piedmontese architecture.

Passing the torch

Guarene Castle passes from the Roero family to the Provana family of Collegno. After centuries of family ownership, a long era of aristocratic rule comes to an end. The estate retains its role as a repository of memories and historical records.

A Living Heritage

Guarene Castle is a vibrant place, suspended between its magnificent history and the present landscape it overlooks: the hills of Langhe and Monferrato, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage site. A museum, a fine-dining restaurant, and an exclusive residence, it tells the story of seven centuries of history.

A castle, a treasure trove of history, a contemporary residence

The same visual experience enjoyed by guests in the 18th century is now an exclusive hospitality experience

Guarene Castle is a true work of art: fifteen protected historic rooms tell the story of centuries of taste, power, and aristocratic life, featuring tapestries from the East India Company and frescoes by artists such as Francesco Casoli, Giacomo Rappa, Bernardo Gallori, and Giuseppe Palladino. Conservative restoration work preserves its authenticity, offering an invaluable experience to those who stay there.

Italian gardens,
restored to their original splendor

They were created to reflect humanistic thought in all its harmony and to expand the noble villas with ingenious symmetry.

Today, they transform Guarene Castle into a breathtaking spectacle. Designed by Count Carlo Giacinto Roero in 1740, they frame the historic residence just as they did in the past, thanks to a recent renovation. Topiary, hedges, and sculpted trees frame the building, while on the lower level, facing Barbaresco, the “Maneggio” stands out, where low hornbeam hedges delineate flowerbeds of various geometric shapes.

The castle library: an experience like no other

Extremely valuable bindings,
unique copies

Over the course of three hundred years, the library of Guarene Castle has amassed an equally impressive collection of rare volumes. It is a place of beauty and remembrance, a testament to the culture and intellectual curiosity that have shaped the history of the estate over the centuries.

The facade and balcony of Guarene Castle

A view that takes in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage

The castle’s facade culminates in a spectacular balcony that overlooks more than 60 kilometers of UNESCO-designated territory. The view takes in the Langhe, Roero, Monferrato, and the Alps, transforming Piedmontese Baroque architecture into a meeting point of landscape, history, and beauty.
